Travers Smith names new managing partner
TRAVERS SMITH has chosen employment head Andrew Lilley to succeed Chris Carroll as managing partner from 2010.
Carroll has held the role for the past nine years, and completes his third term on 31 December 2009. He became a partner in 1996 and was a founding member of both the private equity and investment funds group. Since becoming managing partner in 2001, however, he has devoted the majority of his time to management matters.
The firm’s partners did not vote in an election, with senior partner Alasdair Douglas instead following “an informal consultation process”.
“A consensus emerged that Andrew should be the next managing partner,” the firm stated on its website.
Lilley has served on the firm’s management committee alongside Carroll for five years. His appointment will be for an initial term of three years.
Travers Smith also promoted four new lawyers to the partnership in May 2009, drawing talent from a range of practice areas. Andrew Block (pensions), Tim Gilbert (employment), Peter Hughes (banking and corporate recovery) and Toby Robinson (litigation) all join the partnership effective as of1 July 2009.
