Dundas & Wilson agrees training deal with College of Law

TOP-50 UK law firm Dundas & Wilson (D&W) has agreed to send all its England and Wales trainees to courses run by the College of Law beginning in September 2010.

The firm, which has offices in Edinburgh and Glasgow as well as London, regularly recruits up to 30 trainees across the two jurisdictions each year. England and Wales trainees are able to study courses at any of the College’s eight centres nationwide − the newest of which, in Bristol, is to open in September 2010.

Director of learning and professional development, Jim Moser, said the collaboration was an “exciting step forward”.

“It is part of our long-term learning and development strategy, developing training that totally matches the needs of our business and our people and delivers the best value for money,” he commented.

The deal also sees future trainees in Scotland provided with online tuition based on key electives run by the college to ensure a consistent approach is followed across the business.

In October 2009 the College of Law reached an exclusive three-year training agreement with international law firm Ashurst, to include a significant emphasis on firm-specific case studies and precedents and its preferred writing style.

Ashurst’s own lawyers will also be involved in the training programme, which aims to reproduce, as far as possible, the mentoring relationship between partner and trainee.
