Linklaters launches Dutch litigation practice

MAGIC CIRCLE law firm Linklaters has hired a leading Dutch corporate litigator to spearhead a new litigation practice in the Netherlands.

Daniella Stirk, who specialises in corporate litigation, corporate governance and arbitration, joins the firm’s Amsterdam office from NautaDutilh, where she was also a partner. Managing partner Martijn Koopal said the appointment represented “a key next step” in the growth of the office. Stirk begins her role in February 2010.

Linklaters is looking to expand its international litigation capability, as the continuing economic downturn leads to a new wave of instructions in a wide range of areas. “The market of public and private M&A has become increasingly litigious, with company disputes increasing both in number and size,” explained global head Françoise Lefèvre.

“This has been especially marked in the last 18 months as a result of the credit crisis.”

In December 2009 litigation partner Christa Band will join the Linklaters London office from Herbert Smith, while September saw the arrival of Francisco Málaga from Cuatrecasas to head up the firm’s Spanish litigation practice.

In other news José Giménez has also joined the Linklaters Madrid office from CMS Albiñana & Suárez de Lezo to lead the firm’s public law and regulated sectors practice.

His hire came as sectors such as energy and telecommunications are “proving particularly active in M&A and private equity”, said Madrid corporate head Alejandro Ortiz.
