DLA Piper appoints Dubai corporate head
DLA PIPER has boosted its Middle East offering with the appointment of a new corporate head for Dubai.
Peter Monk, a former senior corporate and M&A partner at Australian firm Minter Ellison, will focus on strengthening the firm’s presence in Dubai by building the corporate team across the region.
“Our commitment to the region and to clients, needs to be supported with strong capabilities within the corporate market, which is why Peter’s appointment is central to our long-term plans,” said DLA’s regional managing partner for the Middle East, David Church. “In Peter we have more than two decades of strong, international experience, which will bolster our existing capabilities.”
Monk added his new role was “tremendously exciting”, indicating the economic success of the Gulf region in recent years helped influence his move. “There is no more exciting place in the world to be right now as a corporate lawyer,” he said.
Effective as of February 2008, the appointment follows development of the firm’s offices in Abu Dhabi, Qatar and Oman in 2008.
In other news, DLA launched an operation in Houston, Texas, in March 2008, with the appointment of three new energy partners (Jack O’Neill, Mark White and Jack Langlois).
