Maples and Calder and Carey Olsen ‘best friends’
OFFSHORE LAW firms Maples and Calder (MC) and Carey Olsen (CO) have announced plans to collaborate on all future offshore legal work as part of a newly-established ‘best friends’ relationship.
The collaboration will enable MC to offer its clients a range of Channel Island legal advice through CO’s Jersey and Guernsey-based lawyers and provide CO access to MC offshore legal services in the Cayman Islands and British Virgin Islands.
“The association between our firm and MC will be stronger than the sum of its parts,” says Alex Ohlsson, managing partner at CO’s Jersey office. “Together with MC, we will be able to ensure that our respective clients receive the highest service levels in all key offshore jurisdictions.”
As part of the arrangement MC will cease to practise law in Jersey, with existing Jersey clients being transferred to CO and MC Jersey-based lawyers either relocated within the MC group or incorporated into CO’s Jersey office.
“Our aim is to find the best and most cost-effective solutions for our clients. The new arrangement with CO supports that model,” says Henry Harford, managing partner of MC’s London office. “It allows us to offer our clients unparalleled access to expert legal advice in the Channel Islands and strengthens our offering across the principal offshore jurisdictions”.
Maples’ Jersey-based Cayman Islands legal advisors and Maple Finance’s Jersey operation will remain unchanged.
