K&L Gates secures second China base
KIRKPATRICK & LOCKHART Preston Gates Ellis LLP (K&L Gates) has opened an office in the Chinese city of Shanghai – its fourth in Asia and second in China.
The Chinese government has granted the firm a license for the base, which will further enhance its Chinese offering in areas such as technology, M&A, intellectual property protection, and government and regulatory matters.
The office’s ‘chief representative’ is Vincent Tso, who has advised clients in the Greater China region for over a decade. He is joined by partner Howard Chen, Of Counsel Ivan Chiang, and China Counsel Amigo Xie.
The firm’s Asia managing partner, David K.Y. Tang, said the opening marked the “strong growth” of the firm in China, particularly in the financial sector.
“Our lawyers there are fully integrated with our lawyers in other Greater China offices and with our entire global platform,” he added.
The 1,500 lawyer firm boasts 25 offices worldwide, including in Hong Kong, Beijing and Taipei in Asia.
