Freshfields launches Washington arbitration group
MAGIC-CIRCLE law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has launched an arbitration practice in US capital Washington DC.
Arbitration partner Nogel Blackaby is to relocate from Paris owing to the growth of investor-state arbitrations coming before the Washington-based International Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID).
“It made sense for me to based in Washington rather than continue to commute across the Atlantic,” said Blackaby, who is also co-head of the firm’s Latin America arbitration practice. He will be joined by three associates from Paris, taking the firm’s total number of US-based specialist international arbitration lawyers to 20.
