Shepherd & Wedderburn lures Linklaters corporate partner

SHEPHERD & WEDDERBURN has successfully hired senior Linklaters London corporate partner Steven Turnbull.

Turnbull will join the London office of Shepherd & Wedderburn in May, having previously spent 32 years at the magic-circle firm. He will be responsible for knowledge management
in addition to his partner responsibilities – an area of strategy in which he also served Linklaters.

Patrick Andrews, chief executive of the Scottish-headquartered firm, said Turnbull had “an outstanding reputation in the market”.

Linklaters senior partner David Cheyne said the firm was “pleased” about the decision, adding “they [Shepherd & Wedderburn] are good friends of ours”.

“I am sure that his appointment will significantly increase the number of opportunities for the two firms to work together,” he added.

Turnbull’s clients at Linklaters have included digital specialist ARM Holdings and mobile phone giant Orange.

In other news, an eight-strong team of intellectual property (IP) lawyers are leaving Linklaters to join Olswang in the German capital of Berlin.

Partners Stefan Lutje and Georg von Wallis lead the team, which began working for Olswang on 1 May 2008. They are also accompanied by Viola Bensinger, who will become a partner on joining her new firm.

Olswang’s German managing partner, Peter Diedrich, said he was “thrilled to welcome such a widely recognised” group of lawyers.
